In just two months, a new class will begin its studies at The University of Sufism. It has been 10 years since the organization officially became a University and began training its graduates to receive Masters of Divinity degrees. Just this week, one of our long-time community members shared these words from our guide on the community listserv. With gratitude I pass them along to you… The following words of commemoration and gratitude were shared by our guide, Sidi Shaykh Muhammad al-Jamal, on Friday, August 24, 2007, at the Mystical Sufi Weekend gathering in Austin, Texas: This is the opening paragraph:
“It is the good fortune of this country that Allah gives us permission for me and my children to build a University. This University is different. It is different than any other University in this country or any other country. It is unique because it teaches the way of healing, not only healing of the body, but healing of the soul, the hearts, and the spirit….” The last paragraph is a thank you from Sidi: “I thank all of you because you

It came from a Divine command. I don’t want to hold the knowledge from you. I give you the knowledge because you have a comprehending intellect, spirit, and heart, and you will understand.”
Sidi truly has opened the doors for us to receive everything we need, and he has empowered us to carry on with his teachings to spread the message of Peace, Love, Mercy, Justice and Freedom in the world. And I can hear him say, “This is not from me. It is from Allah.” It is a blessing to be called to live a life in service of this message. As Sidi has reminded us many times, “God calls whom He wills to His net.” The call to be in service is felt in the heart – the yearning to know God and to serve His people and His earth, to bring love, compassion and healing to every heart. During this enrollment period, we are witnessing a part of the next wave of souls who will be joining us. It is exciting to watch the unfolding of the unique gifts each has been given to help spread the message of peace. It is heart-warming and exhilarating to watch how each will carry out their calling. Especially today, given the current affairs in the US and throughout the world, we need more and more people who truly understand peace and healing. The world needs each person who has been called to step in fully to do their part. Another quote from Sidi says:
“One stone cannot build a house. It takes many stones to build a house. You are the ones who will work to build this house of God. This university will be your house. It will raise the flag of unity, peace, mercy, love, justice, and freedom for all people.”
The UOS programs are designed to help individuals bring out their unique gifts so they can lead a life of divinely-guided service in the way they have been called that is most beneficial to God’s creation. We can all build this house of God together. Has your heart been called? If so, or if you think so, and you wish to unfold your unique gifts to serve God’s creation, you are invited to join us. You can start by connecting with one of our enrollment specialists today. As Sidi also said, “Be the son or daughter of your moment. Take your chance.” Do not let this moment pass you by. The world is waiting for your gifts. What are you waiting for? May God’s peace and blessings be upon you. With love and gratitude, Mastura Graugnard on behalf of all your friends and family at UOS
