In this way, you lose your center and there’s no freedom in that. You are being controlled by fear, wants, beliefs and ego (“nafs”). You’re at the mercy of these things.

How can you take control and live from a heart of freedom?

1. Learn to let go, surrender entirely and follow God

When you let go and just follow Allah, which is truly the highest, there’s an incredible freedom that happens inside. Sidi al-Jamal, our Sufi guide, talks about an inner freedom. When you change your witnessing from the material world to witnessing Allah (God, Divine Love, The One), you stop being pulled around.

2. Learn to discipline your mind and heart

If you aren’t controlled by the messages of the world, then you can act and move by the hand of Allah (the hand of Divine love) and face any situation.

The process of turning our focus from the material world to one that is following the guidance of Allah (the Divine) is a journey. When you say “yes” to the Higher guidance our life becomes less rigid.  There is a “flowing” to life that allows you to move through things as needed with the response or action that fits the situation rather than the same old belief system or habit.

When you learn these steps, you experience tremendous freedom!

Here’s a quick formula that is easy to remember:

Surrender + Seeking God = Freedom

We have lost the sense of who we really are as God created us. We have forgotten because our essense or fitra became covered over through the course of life. For the Sufis the fitra is hidden behind many (70,000) veils or blocks. These veils have developed as a result of our early experiences, our “misconceptions from childhood” as our guide, Sidi al- Jamal calls them.

For example, a colicky baby is left to cry in her crib until she finally falls asleep. This experience causes emotional pain on top of the physical pain in her belly, and she is left with a belief that “no one will come to help when I am in pain” or something like that. The emotional pain and the belief form veils over her heart, so that in time she becomes reluctant to trust others, to get close to them or to let them support her. She thinks she has to do everything on her own, and she has difficulty forming intimate relationships. Her heart is veiled by the early experiences and the belief that formed as a result.

How to Use Sufi Healing to Remove the Blocks or Veils

In a Sufi Prophetic Healing through prayers, invocations, recitations of holy qualities and healing verses, the veils can be removed. Upon invoking Allah, angels and divine lights are sent to help. As the light enters a person’s heart, it flows to the places that hold the veils. The light “flushes out” the veils step by step. Sometimes this happens all in one session; other times it takes more than one session to remove a veil completely. As the veils “dissolve” or disappear, the person is transformed. She begins to feel very different. She sees everything in her life differently. More peace, more mercy, and more love enter her heart, and she is able to bring these qualities into her life.

The heart is an infinite creation of beauty and contains many, many realities. The problem is that we’re typically not aware of these realities because our heart’s attention has been captured by the material world.

Think about a new born baby. You can see “fitra” (the natural essence of the child) and you feel it with your heart – it’s overflowing with divine love!

However, as the child grows — and this is story of humanity- our heart begins to receive other impressions. We go through difficulties. We don’t receive all of the love we want when we want it and the way we want it. We have disappointments. We have traumas. We have difficult and challenging situations.

We come into situations where we feel overwhelmed or we feel abandoned, betrayed. Anger can build up, loss of confidence, sense of unworthiness. All of these things begin to cover over this divine treasure, this essential nature that we’ve been given. So instead of having a heart overflowing with love and peace and beauty and goodness, it’s actually covered over.

The beauty of Sufism is the journey to -

*  Restore the heart to its pristine health

*  Release the heart from constrictions and pain and trauma

*  Discover the true and essential nature and beauty of who you are!

Sufism is a path of unification, of becoming one with God, and it’s a path of doing that through love.

The good news you don’t have to become anything different than who you are. It’s really just the process of returning to God to become who you are!

Without love, your heart, your body and your spirit dry up.

Your life becomes a desert no matter how much so-called success you may have, no matter how much fame, how much money or how much power.

Very few people understand these simple facts. Very few people realize how sensitive their spiritual hearts are and how many toxins they are taking in on a daily and even hourly basis, how much in need their hearts are of cleaning and purification; and almost no one knows how to open their hearts deeply to receive love, not just from other human beings but most importantly from God, from the Creator; and almost no one knows the beauty and the treasure that is hidden in their hearts.

This is the gift of the Sufi teachings that changes lives completely and is available to everyone. In Sufism, we call it “the secret of the love of God.”  When we know Divine love, the deep heart is an oasis, a refuge of love, peace and well-being. Even when feeling stressed and overwhelmed by the challenges of life, we need only to step back and remember what the heart carries and drop back in to connect.

This oasis in the heart is a garden. It is filled with the Divine love. It is always accessible right now in the moment.

Divine mercy is the foundational force that pervades the universe and manifests in everything we experience.  When we feel the warmth of the sun on our cheek, hear the sweetness of a bird’s song or experience joy in our heart when we look into the innocent eyes of a child, all of this is mercy.  When our heart is crying for help, guidance or support because of a challenging situation and we receive an answer, inspiration or healing-this, too is Divine mercy.

There is mercy in the rain as it pours down and nourishes the soil and gives birth to plants, flowers, and fruit. There is mercy in the air that we breathe. Without thinking about it, our body knows what to do with oxygen breathed and turns it into fuel that sustains your life. Every single moment of our existence has mercy in it.  Mercy is so primary and fundamental that most of the time we don’t even notice it.  The teachings of the Sufi path help us to recognize that Divine mercy, tenderness, care, nurturing, support and answers to our prayers come to us in every single moment.

Through Sufi Prophetic Healing we come to experience our true essence and our soul’s purpose.  This essence or “fitra” is our original nature, and it contains only purity, goodness, and worshipfulness. Infants are pure reflections of the fitra. That is why we are drawn to be near them and to hold them. Our hearts long for their clear expression of the original nature or “fitra”.

The Pre-Eminence of Love
To explain the reason for creating all the worlds, Allah said, “I was a hidden treasure and I loved to be known.” This means that Allah created us from an act of love, and Allah placed the knowledge of divine love in our hearts. Love is part of our essential nature. Love is also our goal. Allah asks us to bring love to all beings and things in creation.

Our Spiritual Consciousness and the Heart
The heart is the focus of Sufi Prophetic Healing. Not the heart organ, but the spiritual heart that occupies the whole upper chest region. Why is this the focus? Because Allah created the human heart to contain the spiritual consciousness of the being.

Science has now documented this quality of the heart. In addition, Allah placed inside this heart the knowledge of love and unity way before we were born. Deep inside the heart is a yearning for this love and unity. The heart was made for love. And it is divine love that heals.

Yet, the heart also stores the memories which the Sufis call “voices” and “pictures” in the form of veils. To access the divine love inside the heart we must remove the veils.   Sufi spiritual healing is one gentle, loving way to remove the veils.

Peace is not external. It lies deep within our heart for us to uncover and live. Its expression is in each breath that we take with awareness and remembrance of who we really are.

The hatred, injury, discord, doubt, despair and darkness are seen as covers or diseases upon our spiritual heart, that need cleaning or purification. The process of purification, allows us to understand, be consoled, love, give, forgive and much more.
