Spiritual Healing and Counseling

The Spiritual Healing and Counseling masters is designed to train high quality professionals to heal through the light of God, transform spiritual illness and emotional distress, and guide people into their hearts and back to God, the true source of health and wholeness. The coursework is grounded in the centuries old tradition of Islamic Medicine and the profound wisdom of the Sufi Path, opening students up to the secrets of healing in the way of the Prophets. The curriculum integrates knowledge gained from the Sufi view of the human being, spiritual healing, herbs and nutrition. Students learn to work with individuals and couples. They have the opportunity to explore in depth working with many different problems and population groups.

Spiritual Healing & Counseling Course Descriptions and Credits

801 Development of the Healer as an Instrument in Allah’s hand – (2 credits)

This course complements the core curriculum and brings students deeper into being the hands, eyes, ears and tongue of Allah. Students are helped to clear their own issues that interfere with receiving clear guidance and with giving what is needed for effective healing of another person. They will learn how to contain strong energies in themselves and others.

802 Creating and Maintaining Healing Relationships – (2 credits)

In this class, students learn how to listen to verbal and non-verbal communication and respond appropriately while holding the person’s heart. They will learn to meet a person who is sick or in pain from a place of openness and trust in Allah, perceive the person’s essence, and create an ongoing healing relationship.

803 Ethical and Professional Issues in Working with Others – (2 credits)

Students will explore common ethical issues in healing such as the creation of appropriate boundaries, when to refer, touch, and learn to handle their own material as it arises in the healing relationship.

804 Relationship Counseling in the Sufi Way – (2 credits)

This course offers students an understanding of the divine feminine and divine masculine and how to help individuals and couples find these aspects inside themselves and in relationship.

805 How to Analyze Subtle Influences that Affect Health and Well-Being – (2 credits)

Students will develop their ability to perceive subtle influences on the body, learning how to use their perceptions to direct a person into a deeper connection with Allah, and hence a deeper sense of health and well being.

806 Use of the Qu’ran, Qualities and Healing Prayers – (3 credits)

In this class students will learn the use of surahs, qualities and traditional prayers used for healing to help dispel influences that cause illness and bring their people face to face with Allah.

807 Prophetic Perspectives on the Creation of Illness – (2 credits)

In this class, students will learn how sickness arises, describing the role of the nafs (ego) in the creation of illness and how to purify them. They will articulate the relationship between spirit and body, articulate how the heart is a mirror of the world and the relevance of this to healing. They will do case studies on people with a variety of illnesses, researching the Western understanding of the disease and then learning through direct experience how these illnesses are held in the body, heart and soul.

808 Clinical topics in Healing – (1 credit)

This teleclass will allow students to have a deeper exploration of topics studied during class as well as explore common issues in healing such as shame, forgiveness, and trauma.

809 Bringing your Healing Ministry to the World – (1 credit)

This teleclass offers practical skills to help students talk about their healing ministry out in the world.

810 Zawiyyah – (8 credits)

Personal retreat allows students to develop themselves more deeply as the instrument in Allah’s hands and therefore be more effective healers.

811 Individual and Group Mentoring – (2 credits)

Students will receive guidance on working with others, with an eye toward further development of their skills in holding hearts, verbal and non-verbal communication, ability to read subtle energy, ability to align, connect and discharge an energy, and their use of healing prayers and qualities in healing.

812 Practicum – (13 credits)

The student group will work together to create and facilitate a residential intensive healing experience for a group of participants who are interested in deepening their sense of well-being by developing a closer relationship with God. Students will have a chance to integrate their skills from all their coursework and receive mentoring on their healing and facilitation during the experience.
